What is a Strip Grip? A strip grip is a 3/4”-1"  piece of velvet that is sewn into the band of the head covering of your choice. I recently saw the cutest boys shul play set. Complete with tallis and tefillin. Seeing my daughter left out of the play fest, my first thought was what can I make for her to complete this play package? The idea was born. The kids Pretied for dress up professionals. Well who wears pullover sweaters?  It seems to me that the feminine world of fashion wears sweaters without zippers, buttons or snaps. I find that when I'm getting dressed up, to go out - I apply my make-up first, while wearing a pretied bandanna.  Then when I'm all dolled up and ready to leave, I can easily put on my ANGLE SWEATER.  The angle seater goes over my pretied bandana or any head covering (Sombrero excluded!). I can pop on my funky hat or wig (with a slip not - wig grip underneath of course) as a head covering and I am good to go.

Below is an Angle sweater that has a bit of a cowl neck for easy on and off. This knit sweater is sometimes called a PONCHO. It is warm, cozy and dressy too. I love how the sweater just drapes beautifully on a dramatic angle with a point worn in the front.  My favorite is the most practical color- LOL yes, BLACK. The most forgiving color in a girls closet.

About three feet away from me stood another religious lady at the beach in – I kid you not – a Shaitel. Yes! She apparently put on her fine, custom, $3,500 + wig to go to the beach?! Oxidize much?!

“You have got to be kidding me!” was my first reaction.

Then my not highly conditioned enough reflex of “different strokes for different folks” kicked in. I glanced again at the lady, pulled the two ends of my kerchief out of habit, glanced at the wig wearing lady again, and then stared out to sea, deliberately keeping my “new friend” and her Shaitel out of sight…. trying to behave…

Someone tapped me and I jumped! “Sorry!” I heard a timid voice break through my grumping. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I just wanted to know where you got that pre-tied. Sorry!”

I lifted me kerchief-clad head and stared at – you guessed it – my wig clad “neighbor,” I restructured my grimace into a lopsided grin, clumsily got to my feet and stuttered, “Ooohhh! T- Th- That’s okay! It-it-it’s no pro-prob-problem. Reeeaally!

I quickly studied her appearance and came to three conclusions: She cared how she dressed, she knew how to dress, and she always looked great – from the sole of her shoe to the top of her hat – well shaitel!

“So, anyway, where did you get that pre-tied?” she prompted.

“I go to www.MillineryShop.net. See, I would never even think of going to the beach in a Shaitel, even if it was a cheaper one. It would get completely killed, besides that it’s so uncomfortable… and.. oh! Yeah! “What’s the name of the place again?” she asked. And I proceeded to give her the information. We talked for a few minutes more and then she turned and walked away, her wig winking in the sunlight. It’s funny! Now it looked a drop more blondish, before I had been positive it was brown. “I guess my imaginations running wild again,” I mused as I reached up to pull the two ends of my pretied again… out of habit.

“EXERCISE! EXERCISE! COME ON YOU CAN DO IT! Truthfully there’s no reason not to! It’s healthy, it’s fun, it’s invigorating, it’s slimming, it cuts down your appetite, boosts your brain cells, strengthens your bones, motivates you and makes you feel great!

Now imagine exercising in an Guccil designer’s suit. Uh uh! You gotta be nuts! No pain no gain – if you don’t sweat the exercise, it’s not worth a whole lot and an Anne Klien suit is the wrong costume.

Try a nice COMFORTABLE t-shirt and a pair of leggings, sweats, shorts, flairy skirt, or whatever, COMFORTABLE being the key word over here! Don’t forget to kick off those heels, or slippers, or even flats and replace them with COMFORTABLE sneakers that will complete your getup for a great workout.

Did I just say complete? Whoops! Forgot an important part over here! Your headgear! Don’t you dare go exercise in a Shaitel (wig) or fall or hat or cap. Like I said, you gotta be nuts! Choose something COMFORTABLE! Hello! You’re exercising!

How do you cover your hair?

Beach in a shaitel? I dont think so – at least not me! Ever lose your wig – or almost in hershey park. Been there. Done that. Not fun. so here are my top recomendations, feel free to chime in and give me yours:)

This is a great one with my tan clothing, dress it up dress it down it’s all good.

Some stores have purchased this merchandise looking to gain a larger margin of profit (at your expense) others are offering it at steeply discounted prices. It may seem appealing to pay almost half the price you would normally pay. Buyer beware! This product will not hold up to normal wear and tear. It is not cut for optimal comfort and endurance.

My next choice if funky is just not you is a small hat- not the kind you see people wearing Sunday morning!! but a neat, stylish, non-fussy hat.

After you make your choice-whatever your choice is you need only one more thing. CONFIDENCE!! Honestly, if you think you look great chances are others will too. So turn it on!!

How often do you, your husband, or one of your kids find hair in their food? Or better yet, a guest??!! Hmm… appetizing!

If you can answer less than once a month (of the hairs you know about), you’re better off than me and better off than most. Congratulations! But still…

You love entertaining and finally got your Great Aunt Judy over with Uncle Marv, kids and new grandchild – an obvious first dressed in pressed corduroys, a sky blue polo, with a backwards Yankee cap forcing down a heedful of curls, framing a cherubic face.

Your garlic bread went over great – no less than six compliments scored. The salmon entree was “plain luscious” as cousin Leah put it and you were just ladling out the cream of potato soup, thinking about the condiment presentation you had put together.

Twelve soup bowls safely to the table, and you can relax. You lift your spoon, sniff the contents of the bowl appreciatively and open your mouth in anticipation… whoa! What’s that long, thin, brown thing overlapping the edges of the spoon? It’s certainly not a potato! You furtively glance around, hoping no one noticed what just happened, when you notice Uncle Marv inspecting something on his spoon… EMBARRASSING!

And that’s the facts! You can’t even point fingers to your teenaged daughter ‘cuz you got none, or to your older sons, ‘cuz their hair is too short.
